Obituary of Mama Grace Nomvula Dlamini

It is with deep sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived that we celebrate the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Grace Nomvula Dlamini, affectionately known to many as Mama Grace.
Mama Grace was born on 12 March 1948 in Soweto, Johannesburg. She spent her childhood in Orlando East, where she developed the values that would guide her throughout her life — faith, humility, compassion and a deep love for family and community.
In 1971 she married the love of her life, Mr Elias Dlamini. Together they built a warm and welcoming home in Pimville, where they raised their children with love, discipline and Christian values. Their home became a place where family, neighbours and friends always found comfort, encouragement and a warm meal.
For 42 years Mama Grace served as a schoolteacher, first in Soweto and later in Lenasia. Generations of learners remember her firm but gentle hand, her insistence on good manners, and her belief that every child deserves to be believed in.
Her Christian faith was the foundation of her life. She worshipped faithfully at Grace Bible Church, where she served with humility and joy — welcoming visitors, supporting outreach programmes and praying with those facing difficult times.
She enjoyed gardening, Sunday lunches with her grandchildren, church conferences and preserving family traditions. She had a gentle spirit, a warm smile and a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome.
Mama Grace peacefully departed this life on 20 August 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her children Thandi, Sipho and Lerato, her seven cherished grandchildren, her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Her favourite Scripture was: "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." – Psalm 23:1
